WHO Rodolphus and Evan
WHERE The dungeons
WHY Potions class

The Prefect entered the class fashionably late, to the professor's dismay. He tried to mask his smile as he recieved a deserving glare. Before being a Prefect, Professor Slughorn might have said something, but now he was free and in the clear. Sometimes, Lestrange considered himself an unofficial member of the Slug Club.

With a sigh, he moved over to his seat and lowered himself into it. Evan was sitting to his right like they had since their first year. It was one of those things that Rodolphus had come to rely on with for the sense of continuity. After all, he did consider Evan a friend.

Slowly reached into his bag and pulled out his textbook and gently placed it on the desk. Lestrange glanced over to see what page they were on and quickly he turned to page 1265.

"I thought we made this last week," he whispered to Evan.

Evan hid a sigh of relief as the class eventually finished note taking and followed Rodolphus over to the potions cabinet, retrieving the same ingredients as his friend had. Carefully he placed them upon the desk- the was no need to ruin them before he'd even started making the potion- and began crushing a deep red pod.

"Can't wait," Evan half lied. He rather liked the dungeons and potions classes. Especially considering that potions had been one of his two favourite subjects for some years. He was, however, eager to begin brewing and hoped to have one of the rather better looking, more advanced potions by the end of the lesson. "I suppose we should be done fairly quickly, it's not too hard looking."

A small smile upon his face that could have been misinterpreted as a smirk by people that didn't know him well, Evan poured an ingredient into his cauldron and stirred it twice clockwise.

Reaching out for the next piece of apparatus Evan was irritated to find that his was missing. Had someone else taken it while he was not looking? He couldn't be completely sure. But he took it in his stride and couldn't help noticing that Rodolphus still had his.

"Mind if I borrow your silver knife when you're done?" It might set him back a few minutes and he'd have to be careful not to mix ingredients but it was certainly better than nothing.

Rodolphus nodded as he used the silver knife to remove the cornea of the from the eye of newt. The precision of potions making had always been his downfall. "Yep."

With one hand he dropped the cornea in and with the other he passed the knife over to Evan. Out of the corner of his eye, he made sure no one was listening. "I'm going to have one of my parties this weekend." He smirked. "All the firewhiskey you can drink."

"Thanks." He took the knife from Rodolphus and listened intently to his next words. Certainly he was interested in the latest of Rodolphus parties- the firewhisky was an extremely enticing prospect. Who on earth didn't like a bit of a drink every once in a while?

Carefully he proceeded to remove his own cornea. Well, not his own cornea, Evan thought to himself, because that would be an awkwardly painful thing to try.
"Sounds pretty good, I suppose I might just have to turn up. I don't think I could ever turn down such a lucrative offer." He dropped the cornea into the potion and placed the knife back on Rodolphus' desk as he gave him another quick nod in thanks.

"Wonderful." Rodolphus plopped some frogs legs into the cauldron and stirred it once. Suddenly there was a puff of green smoke then a puff of purple smoke.

In shock, Lestrange jumped back, but quickly regained his composure. Looking over to Evan, the more experienced of the two of them (in potions), he quirked a brow. "It's supposed to do that right?"

Rodolphus couldn't help but wish that this was arithmancy or transfiguration, a class that he was good at.

Evan flinched and moved backwards as Rodolphus' potion began behaving rather strangely. It was not written anywhere in the book that it ought to do that- in fact, it should've turned a pale purple after adding the frogs legs and stirring.

"Did you stir it the extra quarter? Or counter clockwise rather than clock wise? I don't think it's quite the right colour..." He trailed off, adding his own frogs legs and leaving it a few seconds before stirring. The effect did not repeat itself. Frowning slightly, Evan glanced over Rodolphus' cauldron again, raising an eyebrow as he did so. "How many legs did you add? Four?"

Rodolphus moved closer to the the potion and peered in quickly. There were five legs bobbing in the brew. "I have five in there." Quickly he looked to the potions book to check the number of legs required.

Instantly, he knew the mistake. "Bloody hell." He sighed. "I'm going to have to start over."

Evan glanced down at his text book again and dropped a handful of shriveled leaves into his own cauldron. Thinking for a minute, he tried to think up some way to counter Rodolphus' predicament. Perhaps stirring, or adding an extra amount of something else? But then, it might go wrong and the effects could be disastrous. At least his was going to plan. It had turned the required purple colour and was bubbling happily to itself.

"Looks like it, yeah," he said sympathetically, "I can give you a hand if you want- mine's got to stew for ten minutes."

Rodolphus smirked as he flipped through the book trying to find another way to fix the problem. "There we go." Slowly he reread the paragraph. "If you add too much of any item, take three drange leaves cut them down the center while facing East then add to potion."

Quickly he grabbed the leaves from one of the jars then looked around. "Which way is East?"
